EMERGENCY

Daisy black & white
My camera died! And band camp is next weekend!! I need a new one but I haven't done any research, thinking it was something that could wait for another few months of paycheck. Dammit. What should I get? I want something nice. I had a basic nikon, but I felt it let me down more often than not. But, I'm also not a talented photographer, so I don't need some $2000 monstrosity.

Anyone got any suggestions?

if you're looking for a basic point and click digital one, the canon powershots are really solid and not too expensive.

Heehee, borrowed internet! :-D

I'm not sure if the names are the same in the US (I know they change the names sometimes), but I'm quite fond of my little Canon Ixus iZoom. I'd love a Canon Digital Ixus 850 or 950 (though I think there's a 970 now as well).

I've never used one myself, but I know some flickr users who use them and I've seen many solid pictures from the canon powershots. It's what I'd go with were I to get another point and shoot.

What do you use?

I use a Nikon D70, which isn't what you want. My old point and shoot is a Fuji, which you might want. I get excellent pictures out of it plus I've put it through hell and it still keeps working, but it's a really old model and I don't know anything about their newer stuff. Still, were I to get a new point and shoot, I'd get the powershot.

I have a Canon Powershot A710 and I am quite pleased with it. Takes good pictures, has all the options I need to customize shots in a user-friendly way, good battery life, good zoom, and a small body. So I too would recommend Canon Powershot cameras.

But didn't I help you pick out your last camera? So you may not want to trust my opinion this time.

There wasn't much wrong with the last camera, other than it was rather prone to gravity. And Canon seems to be the winner here, so your vote certainly counts.
